Laija Laura Ozoliņa was born on January 21, 1972 in Bauska, Latvia.
After secondary school she studied at Riga Vocational School No. 34 where she earned a Diploma for Clothing Design and Construction.
She later worked as a teacher at the same school, relating her discoveries in clothing construction to her students during class.
Laija Laura Ozoliņa created her first paintings in 1998.
Since 1999 exhibitions of her paintings have appeared in many galleries and exhibition halls around Riga: at the Architects’ House, Riga Congress Centre, the Riga Latvian Society House, the Blackheads’ House, among others. She has also exhibited her work in Latvian cities and towns such as Aizkraukle, Cēsis, Jelgava, Jūrmala, Kuldīga, Liepāja, Limbaži, Ludza, Madona, Ogre, Rēzekne, Saldus, Sigulda, Talsi, Tukums, Valmiera, Ventspils, and others.
Her paintings have been shown in Lithuania in the cities of Vilnius, Klaipėda, and Biržai; in Estonia, Tallinn; in Finland, Helsinki; in Russia in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Ulyanovsk, and Yoshkar-Ola; and in Germany in Frankfurt am Main, Böblingen, and other cities as well.
Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s works have been well received by both art critics and the gallery-going public, who have written words of thanks in her comment book.
Art critic and exhibit curator, Sarmīte Sīle, has hosted a number of shows about Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s paintings for Latvian Television including Good Evening Interviews and Vernissage in 1999, and Image +minus in 2001.
Inspired by Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s creations, musician Ainars Karps has made a number of special compositions dedicated to specific paintings by the artist.
In many countries around the world Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s paintings bring pleasure to their owners—in Latvia, Australia, Great Britain, the USA, Germany, India, Denmark, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
Since she uses luminescent paints to create her pieces, Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s paintings surprise their audience with their changing images; as the lighting of a particular painting shifts, thousands of new shades glimmer and fade changing the viewers’ perception of the represented images.
Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s agreeable colour palette inspires onlookers in their own creative endeavours, creates a sense of well-being, and does not contain a single speck of black (which, according to scientific research, can set a depressive mood).
By the invitation of various authors and publishers, Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s paintings have already been used to illustrate books published in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, and Ukraine, as well as a number of calendars, notebooks, and other printed materials. Her paintings will soon appear in books due to be published in the USA, Germany, and Poland.
Her original work also graces clothing and ties.
Alongside her painting, Laija Laura Ozoliņa has been writing poetry since 2000, but from 2010 she began writing unusual stories about the fates of compelling characters who have lived on our planet in many different times and places. A book entitled The Wonder Maker’s Tale is being prepared for publication. It contains ten stories with paintings that have been dedicated to specific people. Composer Aigars Grāvers has created special music for each story in the book.
In 2014 Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s paintings were shown on the programme Made in Europe, and a documentary film, Cosmic Journey, was made about the painter and her work.
Since 2015 Laija Laura Ozoliņa is a member of the International Union of Artists in Estonia.
In 2016 composer Lolita Ritmanis created music for Laija Laura Ozoliņa’s story and painting Heavenly.
